Prelim Task Evaluation

Prelim Task Evaluation

For this task we (a group of 4) created a 60 second film in which we needed to plan, film and edit ourselves. A lot of emphasis was placed on the different camera angles we used. In my opinion I think we used a wide variety of different angles to get our message across e.g. using low angle shots to give the protagonist more threatening features. Overall I am very happy with our final product we worked well as a team and all participated evenly. My main role was the bulk of editing our 60-second film by ordering our clips chronologically and adding sound effects and a soundtrack to the background. I had never previously used final cut to edit before so I had to learn as I was using it and to be fair I feel my overall performance in using it was a lot better than I first expected it would be however I may need to improve a lot more for future edits as it may require more detail to make the overall finished product a lot more professional. I also got a lot more experience in using the tripod and cameras to film our 60-second so in general I feel more comfortable when using the cameras around the college. If there was one thing I could improve it would be some minor errors we made when filming for example moving the furniture around and people in the background of the shot. However this was due to the limited timeframe we had when shooing our prelim task. If we had more time we could have perfected task to our own standards. Although I did enjoy this task as we were aloud a certain freedom and got some experience with the software and cameras.

Opie Evaluation

Self-evaluation – Opie task

During the Opie task I had to create a cartoon like image of myself using Photoshop. Inspired by Julia Opie who had previously used this style design to edit album artwork. It was my task to recreate this as a picture of myself. Firstly I had to take a picture of myself using photo booth. Then we place this picture into Photoshop and began to create a cartoon version of ourselves. In my opinion I believe that I had picked this task up relatively easily and understood what I had to for this Opie task. However the part that I had found most difficult was getting the detail on the colours right as I found it difficult to get the right colours for items of clothing, skin colour, and especially hair colour. However once I had found the correct colour lassoing the selected area for example the hair was difficult to get it perfect or at least to a suitable standard and it may have took few try’s to get a desired effect. Also I feel that I enjoyed this task as well which is an added bonus when completing this task as I felt comfortable when using the program Photoshop, as I have had previous experience using this program and had a decent understanding of how and what to use through out the course of the Julia Opie task. I found a few problems when using the Mac system, as I haven’t had a lot of experience using this as I have used windows in the past as appose to what we now use.  Overall I am happy with my final Opie task picture.
